August 10th – 11th 1914 (Ed. Note. Day is dropped from entries. See photos below.)

Not very comfortable at schools. Grub better. Went for march round. Slept at schools.

When there is an entry on the left, we will show the whole note. This says ‘mobilization’.

Ed. Note: SEHR after Waterloo could be S&HR. We assume it’s a railway designation. If anyone has more information, please comment below.

  1. Hi, interesting diary. Just to let you know, the entry for the 12th is repeated twice, the second time in place of the 10-11th August entry.

    • Thanks! This was an important entry. Good thing you caught the error. Commander Glennie, I think a Captain then, may have been the father of Admiral Sir Irvine Gordon Glennie. The younger Glennie (1892-1980) is notable for being the second-last commander of the Hood and for his later promotion to Commander-in-Chief, America and West Indies Station.

    • I emailed you late last week, Thursday I think. It’s from a hotmail account so it may be in your junk folder. No response yet back.
