(Whit Monday).. Starboard Watch aired bedding & hung blankets on line. Scrubbed decks & cleaning quarters before breakfast. Scraping sailing pinnace all day. 

May 24th 1915

Whit Sunday. Scrubbed decks & flats & went to cleaning quarters before breakfast. Divisions and church in forenoon. Some hands told off to take in painters stones etc. Pipe down in afternoon. Lovely day so got head down on upper deck. Duty Sub. Got paint down in 1st dog. Worked derrick in last dog. Slept under fore-shelter deck.

May 23rd 1915

Thick fog came on about 12 o’clock. Very hard to find way along channel. Nearly ran into one island. Managed to get through outer gates and then anchored. Both watches called about 1.30 to get nets out. Finished about 3.0.a.m. Got head down on Mess Table and did not turn in. Hands called at 5.15. Shifted into coaling rig straight away. Fog still pretty thick. Breakfast at 6.30. Fog lifted about 9.30 and so got in nets and got under way again. Moored at Rosyth. Coaled from Agnes Duncan. 720 tons. Started about 11 o’clock. Finished at 1.30. Had dinner & cleaned up ship n afternoon.

May 22nd 1915

Scrubbed upper deck & cleaning quarters before breakfast. Cleaned in No 2’s. Commander in Chief, Sir John Jellicoe, came on board. Ships company marched past. Put out to sea about 11.0.am. Very misty when we left. Buzz that escorting destroyer sighted submarine just outside harbour.

May 21st 1915

Holy stoned decks before breakfast. Went just outside harbour about 8. o’clock. Fired 2 rounds per gun 13.5. Good firing. Cleaned paintwork on upper deck in forenoon. On Mess deck in afternoon. Sub-calibre firing. Returned to harbour in 1st dog. Pipe down in afternoon. Had watch from 10.30 to 1.30 AM. 

May 20th 1915

Had morning Watch from 1.30 to daylight. Packed up about 3.0.a.m. Arrived Scapa Floe about 4.30.a.m. Coaled 950 tons. Finished about 10.30. Swept down upper deck before dinner. Went down upper deck before dinner. Went outside Harbour and ran torpedos in afternoon. Told off to get Sub Calibre ammunition up in afternoon. Returned to Harbour in 1st dog. Starboard Watch worked stump derrick and got in Whaler in 1st dog. Told off for duty hand. Went away in lighter to provision ship to fetch meat & spuds. Returned about 8.55. Taken before Officer of the Watch for getting supper instead of working with duty-sub. Cautioned. Humped spuds in afterwards. Slept under fore shelter deck.

Scrubbed decks & cleaning quarters before breakfast. Cook of Mess. Cleaned up decks and had divisions and scraped pinnace in forenoon. Make and mend in afternoon. Got head to bear. prepared for Coaling in 1st dog. Getting in early tomorrow morning. Scapa Floe.

May 18th 1915

Scrubbed decks & cleaning quarters before breakfast. Mess deck painting in forenoon and afternoon. Boxing Competition in evening. Put out to sea about 8.30. Had 1st Watch until 10.30.

Scrubbed mess deck & flats & cleaning quarters before breakfast. Divisions & church in forenoon. Pipe down in afternoon. Nice afternoon and so got head down on upper deck. 

May 16th 1915

Holystoned decks before breakfast. Aired night clothing. Washed down upper deck & cleaning quarters in forenoon. Landed & played for Reserves against Marines in afternoon. Lost 2-1. Make and mend on board.
