Got shake at 5.30 A.M. Got on board in good time. Told off to fetch armoured cordite cases from Armstrong’s yard. Took us all day. No leave.

September 21st 1916
Started painting ship first thing in forenoon. Over the side until just after dinner and then carried on with screws. Leave for Starboard watch
from 4.0 p.m. to 7.0 A.M. Went ashore with Sid. Went to Y.M.C.A. and booked beds. First house (?). Took two flappers in. Had grub at “Rendez-
vous”. Turned in at 10.45.
September 20th 1916
Cleaned paintwork for paintship. Port Watch had leave from 4.0 pm to 7.0 A.M.
September 3rd 1916
Usual Sunday Routine. Church in forenoon. Went to YMCA to see “Battle of Somme” pictures. Excellent pictures. Raining practically all day. Went
to evening service at 8.30.
September 1st 1916
Landing Party in forenoon. Hands paid in dinner
hour. Landed with “Rockies” and played 1st Div
Stokers. Good game, won 2-0. Hand had make & mend.
Night defence at 8.30.
August 1st 1916
Submarine Attack Stations & 4″ gun drill in forenoon. Cleaning out “Q” Turret space in afternoon.
July 26th 1916
Told off to scrape 4″ guns. Working on them all day. Buzz about more leave shortly. Another fine day.
July 24th 1916
Scrubbed out Mess. Told off to work with bos’un’s party in forenoon & afternoon. Had to get up spare nets from stone in foremost flat. Nets at bottom of everything and so had to clear everything out. Troops painted down aloft & upper deck. Duty Searchlight.

Arrived Newcastle about 6.30.A.M. Had breakfast & strolled round the town arriving on board about noon. Cleaned ship in afternoon.
