Had Middle Watch. Packed up about 3.30, so turned in again for a couple of hours. Action Stations sounded off about 10.30. At Action
Stations till about 7.30 p.m. with intervals for meals. Lovely day but came over foggy about 3.0 p.m. “New Zealand” ran into
“Australia” in fog and both returned to harbour. Had first watch. Very foggy and had to burn after search-light to show position.

Hands called at 4.15. Started coaling about 5.30 from John Duncan. Collier chock-a-block and so there was hardly room to move when we first
started, but got better later on. Took in 770 tons. Finished before breakfast. Cleaned ship in forenoon. Duty Sub got in meat and spuds
from “Romeo” about 11 o’clock. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down. Night firing in evening. 4″ & Sub Calibre. Duty Searchlight.

Part of ship in forenoon. Got under way at 10 o’clock. 2nd part Starboard on fos’cle. 13″.5 firing, 4 rounds per gun & 4″, 8 rounds per
gun. Recording party in lower conning tower. Starboard Watch rigged coaling derrick after tea. Cook of Mess. Duty Sub on fos’cle at 8.30.
Up hook. Started firing about 9.0 o’clock. Searchlights went wrong & so did not finish the firing. Dropped hook again about 10 o’clock. Got
wrong billet first of all and had to get it up again. Finished about 11.0 o’clock.

Got under way at 6.0 AM. Rouge finding exercises before breakfast. Sub Calibre & 1″ aiming in forenoon. Acting S.G.’s fired 10 rounds each.
Night firing at 9.0 p.m. Sub Calibre and 1 in aiming. White Watch Stand off. Anchored about 10.0 AM.

Got under way at 6.0 AM. Went past outside harbour and dropped anchor again. Saturday Routine. Scrubbed deck with sand and cleaned
paintwork before breakfast. 1 in aiming in forenoon. Our gun had several misfires. Sub Calibre in afternoon. Kept fan Record in lower
conning tower. Fine day.

While Watch called for morning watch but fell out about 4.30. Hands called at 4.30 & cleaned into coaling rig straight away. Arrived Scapa Flow about 5.0 AM. Started coaling at 6.0 AM. Took in 770 tons. Finished at 10.30. Cleaned ship most of forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down to bear. Wet afternoon and evening.

Did not scrub decks but got all boats out for evaluations. Fleet Evaluations (i) “Out wire hawsers” Lion 1st and 1st. (ii) Out Nets”. Lion 2nd & 7th. (3) Pull round Fleet, all boats. “Lion” 1st and 1st. Landed with 2nd part of Watch in afternoon and went to concert given by gun-room of “New Zealand” in Y.M.C.A. Not at all bad. Slung clean hammocks & night defence in evening.
