Arrived Kings Cross about 6.0 AM. Sidcup 7.45 AM.
Left Rosyth for Newcastle about 9.30. Arrived Jarrow Slacks* about 4.0 p.m. Went into floating dock & started off on leave about 8.0.p.m. Caught 8.15 train to Newcastle. Had grub at Newcastle with Colin & caught 11.19.
*should be ‘Slake’. Here it is from the air in the ’70s.
Chiefly over at dockyard on those days preparing nets for coming in board.
Cleaned outside of pinnace in forenoon. Training class in afternoon. Started 4″ stripping.
Scraped paint in bath room in forenoon. Training class in afternoon. Last day at 4″ drill. Canvas screen rigged on after 4″ deck for munition factory.
All Seamen landed in forenoon & spread out new nets in dockyard all ready to be spiralled together. Cook of Mess so stood fast in afternoon, while remainder of both watches landed and carried on with nets. Cooks only had to get spuds in in afternoon and then packed up.
Usual Routine. Training class in forenoon. 4″ drill.
Usual Sunday Routine. Scrubbed decks after breakfast. Church in forenoon. Got head down in afternoon.
Scrubbed decks with sand & cleaned Mess deck in forenoon. Landed in afternoon & watched ships team draw with “Invincible” 1-1. Excellent game.
