Boat keeper of Sailing Pinnace all day. Boat used for diving party. Running nearly all day. “New Zealand’s foretopmen beat our foretopmen in cutter race. Followed race.
August 31st 1915
Saturday Routine. Holy stoned decks. Fell out to scrub out mess. French Minister of Marine etc. visited ship. Did not inspect Ship’s Company. Duty Sub.
August 30th 1915
Painted ship. Over the side nearly all day.
August 29th 1915
Usual Sunday Routine. Played Bridge in afternoon.
August 28th 1915
Anniversary of Battle of Heligoland Bight. Holy stoned decks Painted hatches in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down. Cook of Mess.
August 27th 1915
Painting Party all day. Cook of Mess. Night defence in evening.
August 26th 1915
Anniversary of joining ship. Landing party in forenoon. “Saxon” went aground before we reached pier. Landed at South Queensferry.
August 25th 1915
Cleaning paintwork all day on upper deck. No landing party as we were provisioning ship.
August 24th 1915
Working Main & stump derrick before breakfast. Painting flats all day. Searchlight drill in forenoon.
