Funeral of Marine Gunner Comely. Painted trunks in forenoon. Landed to play cricket for foretopmen in afternoon but thunderstorms came on before we reached the ground and so returned to ship.

Route march in forenoon. Landed Rosyth side. Painting party in afternoon. Submarine supposed to be in harbour in evening and so made all preparations for getting under way. Nothing doing.

Seaman went for Route March but I had to stay behind as Boat-keeper of pinnace. Head down in afternoon. Anniversary of declaration of War.
