Whit Sunday. Scrubbed decks & flats & went to cleaning quarters before breakfast. Divisions and church in forenoon. Some hands told off to take in painters stones etc. Pipe down in afternoon. Lovely day so got head down on upper deck. Duty Sub. Got paint down in 1st dog. Worked derrick in last dog. Slept under fore-shelter deck.

Thick fog came on about 12 o’clock. Very hard to find way along channel. Nearly ran into one island. Managed to get through outer gates and then anchored. Both watches called about 1.30 to get nets out. Finished about 3.0.a.m. Got head down on Mess Table and did not turn in. Hands called at 5.15. Shifted into coaling rig straight away. Fog still pretty thick. Breakfast at 6.30. Fog lifted about 9.30 and so got in nets and got under way again. Moored at Rosyth. Coaled from Agnes Duncan. 720 tons. Started about 11 o’clock. Finished at 1.30. Had dinner & cleaned up ship n afternoon.

Scrubbed upper deck & cleaning quarters before breakfast. Cleaned in No 2’s. Commander in Chief, Sir John Jellicoe, came on board. Ships company marched past. Put out to sea about 11.0.am. Very misty when we left. Buzz that escorting destroyer sighted submarine just outside harbour.

Holy stoned decks before breakfast. Went just outside harbour about 8. o’clock. Fired 2 rounds per gun 13.5. Good firing. Cleaned paintwork on upper deck in forenoon. On Mess deck in afternoon. Sub-calibre firing. Returned to harbour in 1st dog. Pipe down in afternoon. Had watch from 10.30 to 1.30 AM.
