Hands called at 5.30 AM. Got under way about 7.0 AM. Tried paravanes and ran torpedoes. Arrived back about 1.30. On fos’cle nearly all afternoon.

Under short notice. Advance party piped to clean at 10 o’clock. Left ship about 11 o’clock. Had grub at Navy House, Queens ferry and caught 1.45
from Edinburgh. Charlie Life who was leaving ship came with me as far as York. Arrived Kinds Cross about 11.30. Put up at Union Jack Club for
night.

Awakened about 4 o’clock by Stokers wheeling barrows under foreshelter deck getting coal bags out. Cleaned into coaling rig first thing as we
were under short notice.Started coaling about 8 o’clock. Took in 450 tons. Finished about 9.30. Cleaned ship in forenoon. French Admiral came on
board in afternoon. Joined up part of ship as there was no painting party. Submarine tied up alongside.
