Woke up some time during Middle. Sea coming through hatch onto Mess Deck. Had Morning Watch. Sea still very rough. Cable Lockers flooded and ate
fore part. “Negro” sunk during night. Broke her back. Rotten Watch. Scrubbed out Mess in forenoon. Hands bailing out forward all day. Submarine
Watch 12.30 – 2. Arrived Queensferry about 2 o’clock. Coaled ship

1000 tons from “Agnes Duncan”. Started about 2 o’clock and finished about
7.30. Cleaned ship afterwards. Finished about 9.30 p.m.

Got under way about 8.0 a.m. 13.5 firing. 4 rounds per gun. Kept Yaw Record in Lower Conning Tower. Finished firing about 10.30. Watched “Renown”
fire. Our firing very good. Proceed to Scapa Flow when all ships had finished. Passed mine sweepers en route. Submarine crew from 2-3. Arrived
Scapa about 3.0. p.m. Coaled ship 470 tons from “Horton”. Finished about 5.30. Cleaned ship and finished about 7.30.

Ordinary Routine. Scrubbed out Mess. Stripped down blocks of stump derrick in forenoon. Got under wasy at 1 o’clock. Went out into flow and ran Torpedoes. Rigged derricks for coaling in afternoon. Dropped anchor in Flow about 4.0 p.m. Destroyer attack in 1st dog Watch. Night defence crews closed up. Red forward, Blue aft, White in turrets. Got up hook about 6.15.p.m. and returned to anchorage. Duty Sub.

White crews fired 1″ first thing. Burnt Searchlights. Told off to see Captain in forenoon. Showed us letter from Admiralty saying we were not fitted for commissions except as A.P. and so all wash out. Captain told us the we might be able to get transferred to Army and we all decided to do so. Not much doing in afternoon. Went back to anchorage at 1.30.p.m.
