August 29th 1916

2nd anniversary of Battle of Heligoland Bight. Raining first thing. Action Stations in forenoon. Attended Commanders defaulters to hand in application for commission but washed out until tomorrow. Told off to make new grommets for Cordite Slings in afternoon. Cook of Mess. 

August 28th 1916

Ordinary Sunday Routine. Church in forenoon. Played cards first part of afternoon and then got head down. 2 British Airships came over Fleet in afternoon. Duty Sub. 

August 27th 1916

Second anniversary of joining ship. Scrubbed decks with sand. Part of ship in forenoon. Raining practically all day. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down.

August 26th 1916

Told off for provisioning party. Went to breakfast at 7.30. Started provisioning at 8.30. Relieved about 9.30 and told off for Canteen Working Party. Scrubbed out P.O’s Canteen. Got a couple of pints. Scraping under foreshelter deck and cleaning coal dust out of gun-room in afternoon. Raining practically all day.

August 25th 1916

4″ gun drill in forenoon. (?) supplying ammunition. Saw Captain & Commander re commission. Left over make & mend in afternoon. Head down.

August 24th 1916

Scrubbed decks with sand before breakfast. Sunday Routine. Told off for 4″ deck painting party. Painted overhead in forenoon and afternoon. Duty part. Slept forward. “New Zealand” concert party serenaded us from pinnace in evening.

August 23rd 1916

Painted ship. Painted underneath Direction Tower & lower yard in forenoon. Finished off in afternoon. Lord Burghesh signed request to see Captain re commission and gave same to M.A.A.

August 22nd 1916

Saturday Routine. Holystoned decks. Scrubbed flats after breakfast and cleaning pipes in forward mess deck until gun quarters. Painting screws in afternoon.

August 21st 1916

Hands called at 5.0 AM & shifted into coaling rig. Took some time to buoy at Rosyth. Started coaling about 6.45. Raining hard before breakfast and miserable working. Better after breakfast. Too in 750 tons. Finished about 7.30. Cleaned ship before dinner. Pipe down after dinner. Got head to bear.
