Usual routine. Coal ship tomorrow. Pay day.

Very hard gale. Topmast carried away during night and and port 3 pdr. was had overboard and both calcium buoys. Plenty of
water found its way into lower decks. Cleaned up the flats in forenoon and when finished got head down. Supposed to have been on
the way to bombard Borkum.

Hands called at 2.50 a.m. Raining blowing hard and very cold miserable getting in nets. Finger very painful. Put out to sea about 4.30 a.m. Broke into usual sea routine. Chaplain dished out socks and mufflers to Volunteers.

Usual harbour routine. Took in 13.5 shrapnel. Heard buzz of bombardment of coast.
September 24th 1914
Squashed finger in 4 in ammunition hoist. Arrive Scapa Flow about 7:30 A.M. Coaled ship 1000 tons. Weather warmer. Told off for provisioning.
