In sight of Norwegian coast. Weather fine but windy.

Usual sea routine. Pipe down always in afternoons when at sea. German ships reported off Norwegian coast but found nothing doing.
September 20th 1914
Submarine guns crews shot at several buoys supposed to be working petrol tanks for German submarines. Quite good sport. Had church in forenoon. Seaboat boarded. Swedish cargo steamer “Olinda.”
September 19th 1914
“Action” sounded off about 1.10 p.m. All crews closed up. Four funnelled cruiser sight. All ready to open fire. Discovered it was H.M.S. “Drake” who had not answered our challenge. R.N.V.R’s had to ship “Lion” cap tallies.

Harbour Routine. Lot of unnecessary work. Commander a devil for work. All other ships in Squadron make and mend in afternoon except “Lion”.

Arrived Scapa Flow. Coaled 1640 tons. Told off for provisioning.
