Had Morning Watch. Had very good sleep during night and feeling quite myself again. Packed up about 5.30. Cleaned decks before breakfast and mess
deck after. Piped down about 10 o’clock. Grand Fleet joined up for manouvres. Continually sounding off central Submarine gun crew from 2 to 3 and
so could not get head down in afternoon. Got it down in dog Watch instead. Sea pretty rough and ship rolling and pitching a good deal. Turned in
soon after 8.
February 27th 1916
Saturday Routine until about 10.30 when we prepared for sea and got under way about 12.30. Head down all the afternoon. Felt very dicky when got
up as ship was pitching heavily. Sick for 1st time since joining but not very bad. Had last dog. Did not feel up to much afterwards and so turned
in at 9 o’clock. Cook of Mess but left dinner until tomorrow.
February 26th 1916
Exercise Action in forenoon. 4″ guns crews retired practically all the time. Rotten day. Very cold & sleet falling practically the whole time.
Cleaned down port-strut in afternoon. Night defence at 5.30. Duty Searchlight. Slept forward.
February 25th 1916
Saw Captain in forenoon to be rated Acting S.G. Played Signalmen in afternoon. Drew 1-1. Sergeant Ross lectured to Seamen on the after Mess Deck
in the evening on his visit for the trenches. Very interesting lecture.

Aired bedding after divisions. Started raining soon afterwards and so took it down again, but not until it was damp. Down in flat all forenoon.
Square number all the afternoon lighting munition factory boggies. Duty Sub. Slept under fore shelter deck. Rather cold.

Hands called at 4.45. Started Coaling from Agnes Duncan at 6.0 AM. Took in 310 tons. Finished before breakfast. Cleaned ship and guns in
forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down.
February 22nd 1916
Sailing pinnace crew called away 1st thing. Got boat out and gear in before breakfast. Evolution. Out all wire hausers. In pinnace all the time.
Cleaned out pinnace in afternoon. Bill Pacy cut head open by hatch falling on it.

Usual Saturday Routine. Church in forenoon. Mended clothes in afternoon.
February 20th 1916
Scrubbed decks before breakfast. Cleaned out Mess & cleaning quarters in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Duty Sub. Had to get in meat &
spuds at 2 o’clock. Almost a(s) soon as we had finished lighter came alongside with stores. and so had to get that in. Kept on the go until 5.30
and so some of make and mend. Heard result of training class. Came out top and so qualified for Acting S.G. alright. Got 89%. Lovely day. Quite
like summer.

Rotten day. Raining and snowing. Scrubbed gear in pinnace in forenoon. Should have played Signalmen in League in afternoon, but grounds unfit.
Night defence at 5.30. White Watch forward. Burnt searchlights. Slung clean hammocks.
