Awakened by Colin shaking me at 3 o’clock. Had Middle Watch but had heard no pipe & so was 3 hours adrift. Lucky was not reported so. “Fearless” & “Hydes” had collision in first watch while going at 20 knots but reached harbour safely. Arrived Rosyth at 4.30. Started coaling at 5.45. Took in 1360 tons. Finished about 11 o’clock. Second part of Starboard on forecastle all afternoon and 1st dog working cable. Got in anchors which had been got up during our absence.

Had morning Watch. Hands called at 4.30. Closed up at Action Stations at 5.30. All very fed up when secure sounded at 6 o’clock. as quite thought there was something doing, especially as we heard shots on port side, which turned out to be from “Cordelia” who sunk trawler with all hands, carrying guns & winless. Carried out usual sea routine at 6.45. Pipe down in afternoon. Got head down.

Dockyard working party. Left ship at 7.15, took drivers (?) and spent all day cleaning away granite which had been blasted out. Found ship in different billet as mooring service had carried away. Ship nearly bumped “Australia” but Petty Officer Fisher had the presence of mind to ship sheet anchor and so pulled her up.
