4 in guns to drill in forenoon. 2nd part of starboard landed in afternoon. Buzz that spies disguised as dockyard workmen had tried to blow
up Powder House and “Invincible” in dockyard, but were collared. Told off for sentry on cells tomorrow. Got morning and forenoon. Zepps
reported approaching in evening but did not see anything of them.

May 1st 1916
Started painting ship first thing. Over side before breakfast. Painted cable and corner behind stump derrick in forenoon. Paid in dinner
hour. Painted stump derrick in afternoon.
April 30th 1916
Sunday Routine. Had new preacher at church. Read on after deck in afternoon.
April 29th 1916
Holy stoned decks before breakfast. Night defence sounded off at 9.0 A.M. but secured a few minutes later. Rather misty and so submarine
attack cancelled. Australian Premier and some other chaps visited ships in afternoon. Cleaned up ship in afternoon.
April 28th 1916
Cleaned paintwork for “paint ship” in forenoon. Painting in Bathroom in afternoon. Buzz that “Russell” had struck mine and sunk. Both
Watches at 7.0 o’clock to take off sea lashings and gaskets from nets as out submarines are making a dummy attack tomorrow at 9.0 A.M.
April 27th 1916
Saturday Routine. Scrubbed out Mess in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. “Invincible” went into dock with large hole in starboard side. She brought in with her a large piece of the vessels bows. Duty Sub.
April 26th 1916
Had Middle Watch. “Invincible” rammed by Patrol Yacht during First Watch. Yacht sunk and “Invincible” damaged. Came off Watch at 3.30. Got
head down on Mess Stool until 4.15. AM when hands were called and shifted into coaling rig. Ran into thick fog somewhere near May Island,
and so did not go under bridge but dropped anchor the other side. Got head down again till breakfast time (7 o’clock). Fog lifted & tied up
to buoy about 9.0 AM. Coaled ship from Agnes Duncan, 850 tons. Finished by dinnertime. Cleaned ship in afternoon.
April 25th 1916
Had morning Watch but fell out practically as soon as we closed up. Got head down on Mess Decks for about an hour. Scrubbed decks and Mess
Decks before breakfast. Cleaning quarters after breakfast. Action Station sounded off about 10.0 AM. Supposed to be dead cert (?) that we
would go into action at 12.30. Heard enemy’s Battle Cruisers had bombarded Lowestoft & Yarmouth. Dinner at 11 o’cloock. Closed up at Action
Stations again directly afterwards. “Secure” sounded about 1.0 o’clock & so nothing doing after all. Everyone very fed up. Steaming pretty
hard all day. Got head down after secure.
April 24th 1916
Swept down decks after coaling, bathed and turned in at 3 o’clock. Hands called at 6.0 a.m. Saturday routinge. Scrubbed decks & cleaned
paintwork in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down. 2nd part of port watch provisioned ship in afternoon. Prepared for sea
after supper and got under way about 10.0 p.m. Strong buzz about German Battle Cruisers being out.
April 23rd 1916
Easter Monday. Church in forenoon. Head down in afternoon. Going into to-night. 2nd part Starboard on fos’cle at 7.30. Arrived Rosyth about
6.0 p.m. Secured to buoy by 9.0 pm, and started coaling. Nice night. Took 1050 tons and finished by midnight.
