Hands called at 4.15. Arrived Rosyth. Started coaling at 6.0 AM. Took in 600 tons. Finished before breakfast. Got foot caught in outhaul towards end and got carried up to block and down into collieer. Might have ended this life but got let off with a bit of skin off knuckles. Cleaned ship in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Duty Sub On the go nearly all the time from Quarters until 9.0 PM.

Prince of Wales coming on board and so hand called half an hour earlier. Cleaned into No. 3’s. Prince of Wales came on board at 9.30 but saw nothing of him. Put to sea at 11.30. Head down in afternoon. Had First Watch. Thuoght there was something doing about 9 o’clock as light cruiser switched on Searchlight and we passed some object to Starboard. Do not know what it was but may have been burning derelict.

Up at 12.0 AM. & kept middle Watch. Rather cold Watch. Relieved at 4.0 AM. Hands called at 4.15. Arrived Scapa Flow about 4.0.A.M. Started coaling about 5.0. o’clock. Took in 1250 tons from Cedartree. Finished about 11.45.a.m. Put out to sea during dinner hour. Cleaned decks and ran torpedoes in afternoon. Lost one. Sub calibre firing and returned to Harbour.

Had all night in after all as morning watch not required. Told off to help gunners party. Got up Sub-Calibre ammunition before breakfast. Shifted cordite from “Q” magazine to “X” & “B” in forenoon. Sub Calibre firing in forenoon. Action Stations at 12.15. 13.5 firing in afternoon. Submarine guns crew until 2.0.p.m. Head down in afternoon. Prepared for coaling in Dog Watches. Turned in at 9.30.p.m. as have morning middle watch.
