Scrubbed decks. Worked cable on foc’sle. Ship in proper pot mess. Very cold day. Leave for 1st part of Starboard from 1.30.p.m to 7.a.m. Boatkeeper of pinnace. Took twenty men ashore, and got head down in afternoon.

Still on Sick List. Plenty of graft going round the ship.
February 13th 1915
Came off Sick List. Port Watch went on leave at 9.30. a.m. Boat keeper of pinnance and took them ashore. Told off for working Cable on foc’sle. Rotten job. Leave for 2nd part of Starboard from 5.0 p.m. to 7.0. a.m. Went ashore with Sid Jarrett. Took train to Newcastle. Had look around town. Very crowded. Went and had a good meal at North of England Cafe. Tried to get into pictures but no room. Caught 10.30 boat back to the ship.

Still on Sick List. Light duty. Hands getting out ammunition & coal. Port Watch expect to go on leave on Saturday at 10.0.A.M.

Doctor said I could turn out, but still on Sick List. Skipper had lower deck cleared and told us that they were giving 10 days leave to each watch. Slept outside Sick Bay.

Feeling very much better but still in bed. Crew ditching coal.

Feeling very much better. Sea apparently pretty choppy. When we arrived in Tyne greeted by loud hoots on syrens etc. from steamers lying there. Arrived Newcastle about 10 A.M. Shifted billet about 6 or 7 p.m. Rumour we will be repaired by coffer dam.

Feeling very much better but still have difficulty in swallowing. Jock drew geat for me in place of that damaged in Action. Expect to leave for Newcastle tonight. Dam taken off. Got under way about 11.50. p.m.

Still be Bay. Throat somewhat easier and feeling better in myself. Took in 100 tons of coal. Expect to go out tonight but nothing doing. Batson and Jordan from “Queens Mary” came on board and came into Bay to see me.

Still in Bay. Throat not much better. Various rumours as to when we are leaving.

Slept well but could eat nothing. Went to Sick Bay after breakfast. Saw Doctor at 8.30 and went to bed. Slept nearly all day.
