Saturday Routine. Holy stoned decks. Prepared for Sea in forenoon. Got under way about 12 o’clock (noon). Head down in afternoon. On way back, coaling on arrival. No night defence. Arrived Rosyth about 8.16. Quite a blizzard on when we arrived. Hands cleaned into Coaling Rig before arrival. Picking up rope carried away when ship was being hauled up to it. Very difficult job seeing another. Went out with four hands in picket boat to reeve 4 4 1/2″ hauser through buoy. Duty had football gear on and got soaked & chilled through. Took us about 1/2 hour to get it on. Could not bring ship up where had it reevedand about 12 o’clock hands turned in leaving coaling until tomorrow. Finally got ship secured about 1.0.A.M. 2nd picket boat had collision with tug and Ivan Lovell broke his leg.
