The rating killed was AB James Munday RNVR (see https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/6132491 ). He was previously recorded as having died of injuries after Jutland, but thanks to Frank Read for correcting the record.
Thanks for this and the other info in your comments, Gerry. Sometimes I don’t see the value in this but with just this one correction, it seems the diary is helping set some of the records straight. That’s a long time to have an incorrect record beside someone’s name. Much appreciated.
Brian, thanks for the feedback. I am managing the LFWW community for HMS Lion at Jutland and so am finding the diary fascinating and gaining a number of valuable clues to others who served in Lion. I also have Sidcup connections so there is an additional interest. RNVR ratings were not included in the seed records used for LFWW but I have started a ‘life’ for Frank at https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/7669292 and will add further facts from his diary as I pick them up. Please email me directly if there is anything you would like me to add, or feel free to add information.
Thanks Gerry, I will email you directly in order to facilitate communication on the diary. I have recently uncovered some photos of Frank from the Lion plus some other of the crew too. They are probably not unique but some of them might not exist elsewhere. I’ll scan and post them here soon.
