Under 1 hours notice. 2nd part of Starboard got after ladder in first thing. Action Stations in forenoon. Saw Captain re transfer to Army. Wash out as Admiral would not grant permission. Short notice washed out. Landed & played Maintop. Won 501. Good game but raining a lot of the time. Told off as stretcher bearer for E.R.A. Tickle who had been cracked playing Rugby. White Searchlight crew burnt Searchlights in evening. I was a drift and scored a rattle. Got a caution.
December 28th 1916
Munition Party all day. Got rope from Dockyard into “Saxon” in forenoon. Collected munitions and served out rope in afternoon. Returned to Dockyard about 4.30. Stowed grommets etc. Finished about 7.30. Arrived back on board about 7.45. Duty Sub.

Painted ship. Could not start up aloft until the afternoon as paint was not ready. Landed with part of Watch in afternoon. Spent most of time in church Army Hut.

Hands called at 6.15. Washed down upper deck and cleaned Mess deck before breakfast. Card Service at 9.30. Church at 10.0 AM. Went to Holy Communion in A Turret lobby after Church. Usual Sunday Routine. Smoking on Mess Deck. Various concerts etc on various Mess Decks.

Saturday Routine. Duty Sub. Humping Carpenter’s gear all the afternoon. Turkeys served out for Xmas.

Saturday Routine. Cleaning paintwork in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down.

Woke up some time during Middle. Sea coming through hatch onto Mess Deck. Had Morning Watch. Sea still very rough. Cable Lockers flooded and ate
fore part. “Negro” sunk during night. Broke her back. Rotten Watch. Scrubbed out Mess in forenoon. Hands bailing out forward all day. Submarine
Watch 12.30 – 2. Arrived Queensferry about 2 o’clock. Coaled ship

1000 tons from “Agnes Duncan”. Started about 2 o’clock and finished about
7.30. Cleaned ship afterwards. Finished about 9.30 p.m.
Part of net shelf on Starboard Side carried away during Middle. Tactics (?) with Grand Fleet. Action Stations all forenoon. Head down in
afternoon. Sea getting rougher. Had last dog.
