Hands called at 4.45 a.m. and coaled ship 540 tons. Stood off, being duty boat. Had pretty good time in forenoon. Relieved at 12.30. “Iron Duke”
came in before breakfast. Got head down in afternoon. Under short notice all day.
October 19th 1916
Did 8.15. trip while crew got their breakfast. Stand off until 12.30. 4″ gun drill in forenoon. Got back to old number of sightsetter. Drizzling
the majority of afternoon. Kept pretty busy all the time. Got ready for going to sea after supper. Had trip to “Tiger” and then waited for
orders. Got them about midnight. Sea wash out. Had to sleep in boat in case they wanted to hoist us in.
October 18th 1916
Did not get chance to go to breakfast until 10 o’clock and then other crew took over for a trip to relieve us. “Rockies” were going to play
football in afternoon but no landing parties.
October 17th 1916
Stand off in forenoon. Carried on in boat at 12.30. Nice day for running. Kept pretty busy until 11.30 p.m. fetching off officers etc.
October 16th 1916
Did not get boat out until 11.30, relieved at 12.30. Got head down in afternoon. Lord Burghersh mustered 2nd Division to say “good-bye” to them
as he was leaving the ship tomorrow.
October 15th 1916
Stood off until 12.30. Had trip to Hawes Pier at 1 o’clock and another on return. Kept pretty busy until about 7 o’clock when we started to come
in. Very strong wind and tide and had the dickens of a job to get hooked on, managed it at last after we had broken three heaving lines, lost a
cowl and broken skylight and hand rail.
October 14th 1916
Paint Ship. Painted from Director Tower down before breakfast and in forenoon. Ammunitioned ship but was not told off this time. Landed in
afternoon and watched “Lion” play “Inflexible” in leave. Good game, draw 3-3. Told off to take over 2nd packet boat tomorrow.
October 13th 1916
Very windy and wet day. Should have ammunitioned ship but washed out. Down in Flats in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Down in transmitting
room swatting up semaphore with Colin until about 3.0.p.m. “Canada” came in in afternoon. Duty Searchlight. Slept forward.
October 12th 1916
Started painting ships first thing but rained hard and so packed it up at breakfast time. Cleaning paintwork in forenoon under fore shelter deck.
Landed in afternoon and went to concert at Y.M.C.A. Very good.
October 11th 1916
Cleaning screens before breakfast. Canteen party in forenoon. Swept out P.D’s Canteen. Cleaning paintwork in afternoon. Rotten day. Raining off
and on the whole time. Lieut Watson gave us sub up in navigation in 1st dog in Chart House.
