Hands called at 4.0 AM and changed (?) into coaling rig straight away. Worked main derreck, out ladders etc when hands fell in and started
coaling about 6.0 AM. Took in 980 tons from “Frances Duncan”. Finished about 10.30. Cleaned ship etc. afterwards. Rotten wind blowing, rianing &
very cold. Make & mend in afternoon. Went to see Lieut. Harrison re Motor Boat Reserves.

Ordinary Routine before breakfast. Got under way about 9.0. a,m, Wnt to Divisions and Action Stations directly afterwards. Fired 13.5 3/4 charge.
6 rounds per gun. Kept YAW Record in lower conning tower. Returned to anchorage about 11.30. Had to scrub decks again as hook was dropped as C in
C was coming on board in the afternoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Got head down. Got under way about 6.30 for Return trip. Had first Watch.

Hands called at 5.0 AM. Started coaling at 6.30 from “Fordcastle”. Finished about 10.30. Took in 580 tons but seemed much more. Cleaned ship
afterwards. Bathed and went to dinner at 11.30. Got under way about 12.30. 4″ day action crews fired 6 rounds per gun, each battery. Had to train
gun in port battery as well. Also fired sub calibre. Torpedo attack after tea. One hit us and another the “P.R.” Gun crews closed up during
attack. Remainder of crew scrubbed deck as Admiral had dinner party on board. Dropped hook again about 6.0 pm.

Got under way about 8 o’clock and dropped hook about 8.45. 4″ day action crews did 1″ aiming in forenoon. Saw Captain re: Motor Boat Reserve. Not
very cheering news as they want men who have had a certain amount of experience. Said he’ll write again to Admiralty and recommend us for
consideration. Painting in 4″ Flat in afternoon. Starboard Watch on fos’cle from 4.30 until 6.45 working cable, although watch below. Got under
way about 4.30. Sub Caibre firing. Night defence at 6.30. White Watch stand fast. Fired 4 rounds per gun, 2 runs.

Diving party for cable first thing. Got gear in boat before breakfast. Got under way about 7.45 and went to calibrating ground. Washed out of
diving party after breakfast. Told off to see Captain in forenoon but nothing doing owing to calibration. Calibrating 13.5’s in forenoon and part
of afternoon. Working over side painting all day. Got under way about 3.0 p.m. and went over to place where we had dropped anchor. Diving party
had found same and shackled on 4″wire. 2nd part of Starboard on fos’cle after tea to get anchor in, but wire was not large enough and so dropped
buoy until the morning. Went back to anchorage about 6.0 p.m.

Got under way about 7.30. Hands went to breakfast then. Dropped hook when we got out into bay. Should have calibrated but target capsized and so
washed out. Painted ships side all day. Got under way again about 4.0 p.m. and ran torpedoes. Dropped hook about 5.30. Cable parted when about 8
shackles were out. Night defence at 8.15 p.m. White Watch forward. 1″ aiming rifle.

Had Middle Watch. Seemed very long. Turned in for an hour afterwards. Hands called at 5.0.AM and shifter into coaling rig straight away. Arrived Scapa about 6 o’clock. Went to breakfast at 7.0 A.M. Started coaling about 8.0 AM. Took in 750 tons. Finished just before 11.0 AM. and then cleaned ship. Finished about 2.0 AM (PM?) and then got head down for about an hour. Went to evening service at 6.0 p.m. Zepp reported to be on the way over.

Usual Saturday Routine. Holy stoned decks before breakfast. Scrubbed out mess in forenoon. Aired night clothing. (?) party in afternoon when had submarine watch from 3-4. Clocks put back 1.2 hour during watch and so really got 1 1/2 hours. Put other 1/2 hour back in dog watches.
