Working in sailing pinnace before breakfast and in forenoon. Make & mend in afternoon. Head down. Pipers of Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders played in dockyard in evening. Admiral Jellicoe came on board.

Chipping paintwork before breakfast. Scrubbing off burnt paint from after 4″ deck all day with wire scrubbers. Jock Munday accidentally killed in forenoon while getting cutters davit out.

Chipping paintwork all day. “Dreadnought” left basin after 10 weeks stay. Rained hard in afternoon and evening. First rain since we came in basin.

Cleaning down under fore-top. Slipped when coming from bos’uns chair to ladder leading to foretop. Lost hold and went clean over direction tower rails, catching nose and eye on the way. Went from there to foremost funnel and bounced from funnel to lower yard which I managed to hang onto somehow or other. Very close shave as it was a non-stop run from yard to deck of about 60 feet. Had face dished up. Had 3 stitches put in it. On Sick List.
